Featured Car for June 27, 2024
Owned by Scott Bendell, London, Ontario
This Bricklin has been in Scott’s family since 1994 when his father bought the car from a Volkswagon dealership. Scott is the third generation in his family to own a Bricklin, as his grandfather purchased one new in 1975.
The car wears its original colour, though it was repainted before Scott’s father purchased it. Scott’s father restored the car about twenty years ago to cure the notable deficiencies of the car when new. The most significant project was the conversion of the hydraulically operated gullwing doors, a notorious weak point, to a more reliable pneumatic system. Since the restoration, Scott has had to only perform light maintenance to keep the car running.
The car sports a 351 cu.in. (5.8 L) Ford Windsor V8 engine with an automatic transmission and has merely 5,400 original miles on the odometer. Scott says that most of the surviving Bricklins have low mileage because they are not the best manufactured and are in the top 10 of the worst cars ever built. That being said, Scott is confident that this one of the nicest, if not the nicest, Bricklins left in existence, having received many gold concours wins over its lifetime.
Reluctantly, Scott has put this car up for sale. He has listed it with an asking price of CA$80,000 but is willing to negotiate to find the right buyer.
